  • cool idea, but overcomplicated and flawed execution. you could just put together a simple lock that snaps in when you close the box, with a little solenoid to unlock it. no electronics, no programming, and no pricey arduino that slowly eats up the batteries. make the two "hot" wires in different lengths, to prevent accidental activation that would drain the batteries.  - Cuda FX
  • Using an Arduino for that is an overkill. Why can't the kids learn how to design circuits efficiently? Plus that nylon servo arm is really weak. What will probybly happen is that it will time out open, the servo will "lock", then somebody will slam it shut and break off the arm. Or the box will get stuffed with goods, not close completely and the servo will bump into the latch counterpart, draining the battery quickly (servos apply constant current to the motor if the final position is not reached). The way I would approach this project would be creating a solenoid lock that could be slammed shut powerless (thumb latch) in series with the battery and the opening wires.The "dummy" wires could be just connected to the middle tap of the battery to create a hard to crack solution. I would add a little lightbulb in series with the battery pack to prevent short circuits with this approach and to light up a logo or anything when some of the combinations are tried. - zwz • zdenek
